Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging is looking for volunteers to help deliver meals to home-bound elderly in the Marshalltown area. Nutrition is a vital component to remaining healthy and independent.
For many older people it can be increasingly difficult to prepare a meal. Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging's mission is to help empower older people to remain in their homes for as long as they desire. In order to fulfill this mission Hawkeye Valley relies on hundreds of volunteers each year to assist with the delivery of meals.
Meals are delivered Monday through Friday in Marshalltown out of the Marshall County Healthy Lifestyles Senior Center located at 20 1/2 E. State St. Volunteers use their own vehicles to deliver the meals and usually work in pairs, if possible, with one driving and the other taking the meals to the door.
Meals are ready for delivery around 11 a.m. and volunteers are asked to be at the Marshall County Healthy Lifestyles Senior Center at approximately 10:45 a.m. Meal deliveries usually take about an hour. Volunteers are always needed no matter how much time they can commit, whether it is once a week or once a month.
If you, your church or some other organizations are interested in volunteering to help with home delivered meals, please call 641-752-1638.
