FAMILY LIFE

Family: My amazing husband Dex and beautiful daughter Olivia make every day a wonderful adventure!

Pets: My two dogs, Ferra and Ernie.

Hobbies and interests: Gardening, knitting, reading and being with friends and family - all make the top of my list. I have also enjoyed becoming more active in the community.

WORK

Occupation: Administrative assistant at the House of Compassion, 211 W. Church St., Marshalltown.

What that means: I am one of the 350 people who help make this ministry to the less fortunate a success. Working with clients, answering phones, unloading deliveries and preparing the soup kitchen is just a regular day. I love what I do and am grateful for the opportunity to work with such amazing people!

Tenure: I will celebrate my second anniversary in September 2013.

If I could change jobs I would be a/do: I would be a fashion and beauty blogger. I really enjoy watching what designers are showcasing on the runways and examining what beauty trends can be applied to everyday looks.

FAVORITES

Books: "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)" by Mindy Kaling. It is a comedic memoir. Kaling's writing style is similar to reading a letter from one's best friend. I highly recommend this short and entertaining read.

Movie: "Breakfast at Tiffany's" starring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard, directed by Blake Edwards. This is a must-see if one is the romantic comedy, hopeless romantic type.

Foods: I love trying new foods and testing my taste buds. Right now, my family is enjoying what is available at the Marshalltown Farmers Market and looking forward to produce coming out of our garden.

Sports: University of Northern Iowa Panthers.

COMMUNITY

Best part of living here: The opportunity to be involved in my community! I'm a firm believer in putting into one's community what one hopes to get out of it. Marshalltown will continue to grow into a wonderful place if we can come together as a group of socially responsible individuals.

Most influential people: Each member of my family has influenced me at one time or another, but I will always remember my late grandfather, Cresencio Coronado, for his wisdom, unconditional love and appreciation for the simple things in life. I can still hear him saying to me: "Your family is your family, you love them no matter what."

Local involvement: I'm a member of the Marshalltown Area Arts Project and the Central Iowa Art Association. I serve on the House of Compassion Soup Kitchen committee and maintain a few flower beds on Marshalltown's Main Street with my "little" through the local Big Brothers/Big Sisters program.

Advice on life: "You are a unique individual with the ability to change the world, start by taking every opportunity to make lasting change in your community."
