STATE CENTER - Mariah Fritz had three hits and tossed a four-hitter to help the Class 3A No. 4 East Marshall softball team secure second place all to itself in the NICL West Division, winning 10-1 over West Marshall on Monday.
Fritz finished 3-for-5 at the plate and her courtesy runner Kelsea Anderson scored three runs. Taylor Fricke finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and three RBIs, while Callie Roseland went 1-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs.
Paige Miller added two of East Marshall's 14 hits, but the Mustangs (24-3, 12-2) and West Marshall (7-21, 4-8) were tied at 1-all after three innings. East Marshall tallied twice in the fourth, five times in the fifth and once in both the sixth and seventh to break free.
Fritz scattered four hits and three walks, striking out nine in the Mustangs' 10th consecutive victory.
West Marshall's lone run came in the second inning, when Morgan Hopper singled and scored on a hit by Rachel Freland.
Hopper, however, suffered a dislocated knee cap during the game and was taken off by ambulance, according to Trojans head coach Jordan Bentley.
East Marshall goes on the road to face Denver tonight, while West Marshall plays an NICL West doubleheader at South Tama Wednesday.

TAMA - Sam Holtz tossed a three-hit shutout from the circle and connected for two hits and 2 RBIs from the plate as the Trojans cruised past the Rebels (1-22, 0-14).
South Tama (9-18, 5-7) added a four-spot in the sixth after scoring one in the first, two in the third and two in the fifth. The Trojans racked up 14 hits and committed three errors, while Holtz struck out one and issued two walks in seven innings. Jade Rohach and Trisha Walz and Tori Appelgate each tallied two hits, while Walz and Dani Stubbs each plated a pair of runs.
The Trojans face Jesup on the road tonight, while the Rebels head to Wapsie Valley this evening.
Aplington-Parkersburg 3, BCLUW 0
CONRAD - The bats fell silent as the Class 2A No. 9 ranked BCLUW softball team was blanked by Aplington-Parkersburg 3-0 Monday.
Olivia Callaway had the Comets' only hits with a pair of singles as the Falcons did all their scoring in the fifth. Nicolette Simpson took the loss for BCLUW (19-10) allowing three runs on six hits while fanning six and walking one. Callaway finished the game in the circle and struck out a pair.
BCLUW heads to LaPorte City tonight to face Union.
