Original model of the WWII Memorial coming to IVH

July 4, 2013
Times-Republican

A "Day of Honor" for those men and women who served our nation in its time of need during World War II will be held July 14 at the Iowa Veterans Home. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to have the WW II Memorial experience brought to you. This event is sponsored by the Iowa Veterans Home and is open to the public.

Pillars of Honor Inc., from Des Plaines, Ill., will be bringing the original model of the WW II Memorial that Senator Bob Dole presented to Congress for the final design approval, of this long overdue memorial in Washington D.C., which was finally opened in May 2004. This design, which was born out of suggestions from the public and private sectors of our nation, was selected out of more than 400 entrants. The final design came from world-renowned architect Friedrich St. Florian from Providence, R.I.

This event is a special time for family members and friends to attend and share a special time with their WW II veterans as they have their "Day of Honor" for their selfless service to our country in the name of freedom.
