Martha Ann Hall, 79

July 9, 2013
Times-Republican

Martha Hall, 79, of Marshalltown, loving sister, mother, grandmother and friend won her battle with cancer when she passed away at Iowa River Hospice on July 4, 2013. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on July 9, 2013, with a fellowship time to follow at the First Presbyterian Church, 101 S. Center St., Marshalltown.

Martha was born on February 27, 1934, to Merle and Harriet Stan-field. Their family farm was south of Union. Martha carried a great appreciation for her rural up-bringing throughout her life and enjoyed gardening and canning. Martha spent her time fishing with her son, Doug, decorating and gardening with daughter, Debbie and traveling to Hawaii and other locations with daughter, Diane. A favorite travel location for Martha was Daytona Beach, Ha., to visit her sister Kay and niece Laurie. She was very proud of and close to her two grandsons and they shared many activities together.

Martha championed three generations of her family bicycling across Iowa on RAGBRAL many times. She rode her bike through the Colorado Mountains on "Ride the Rockies." In recent times she enjoyed bike outings with her special Mend, Larry Southard. They shared many interests over the past several years such as theatre, sports and bridge club. Martha's life was enriched by her church community and especially through her trials with cancer. Martha's bright smile and engaging personality made a lasting impact on so many and she will be missed beyond words.

She is survived by sister Kay (John) Kepcke, of King George, Va., her daughters, Debbie Hall, of Denver, Colo., and Diane Phillips, of Sacramento, Calif.; her son, Douglas Hall, of Marshalltown; and her grandsons, Jerry Phillips, of Denver, Colo., and Greg Genovic, of Los Angeles, Calif.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Merle and Harriet Stanfield, and her brother, Tom Stanfield.
