Mentors who spend time with their "Littles" in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program find it a little cheaper to do so at several area businesses.
These businesses have been giving discounts to the mentor pairs if they attend their establishment together.
A key part of the mentoring program has the "Bigs" taking their "Littles" to events, movies or for dinner to help build a bond.

Lynne Carroll, left, of Big Brothers Big Sisters, presented a plaque Friday to Karen Albert, manager of the Plaza 9 Theatres for its support to offer discounts to mentoring pairs in BBBS.
Lynne Carroll, director of Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the BBBS board have been delivering plaques of recognition to these businesses for the discounts.
"We wanted to show appreciation for these discounts," Carroll said. "They give opportunities for the 'Bigs' and 'Littles' to spend some time together."
One of the area locations participating in the discount program is Plaza 9 Theatres. The theater offers matinee prices to mentoring pairs at all times.
"I look at (the mentors) as almost like heroes," said Karen Albert, manager of the Plaza 9. "Giving that gift of time is a sacrifice. I think it benefits both of them. We've supported it for a long time."
Other area businesses that offer special prices or discounts to mentoring pairs include Collison's Golf Course, the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA, Marshalltown High School activities, Messy Missy's, the Marshalltown Family Aquatic Center, Pizza Ranch, Totem Bowl and Zeno's Pizza.
