Parks McBride of Marshalltown scored a hole-in-one at Collison Par 3 on July 10, acing the 10th hole with his 6-iron. His shot was witnessed by Dick McBride and Watts McBride.
Bobcat freshman baseball falls twice
The Marshalltown freshman baseball team saw its losing streak stretch to eight games with losses of 14-2 and 8-3 at home against Johnston on Monday.
Only three of Johnston's 14 runs in the first game came earned to Bobcat pitcher Dayton Slifer, as MHS committed nine errors in the six-inning loss.
Marshalltown's four hits came from Jake Sponsler, Devan Mann, Mason Huntley and Jordan Smiley. Sponsler and Mann both stole two bases and scored a run, and Cody Mead had an RBI.
The visiting Dragons got out to an 8-0 lead in game two before the Bobcats scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Smiley went the distance on the mound in the loss.
Mann was 2-for-3 with an RBI and three stolen bases to lead MHS offensively. Paden Himes was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored, while Slifer was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Sponsler and Smiley both added singles.
The Bobcats (7-28) close out their season today with a doubleheader against Des Moines Roosevelt starting at 11:30 a.m. at the MHS diamond.
