The Marshalltown Fire Department is calling a fire at the Tallcorn Towers over the weekend "suspicious."
Fire Chief Steve Edwards said firefighters were called to the building, 134 E. Main St., at 3:04 p.m. Saturday. When firefighters left the fire station they could see black smoke billowing in the sky.
When firefighters arrived, Edwards said they discovered the fire in the back of the building and said a portable toilet and a wooden staircase were fully engulfed.

Construction workers observe the damage at the back of the Tallcorn Towers, 134 E. Main St., Monday morning after a fire over the weekend that the MFD is calling “suspicious.”
"We don't know how it started," Edwards said. "There's no electricity so there shouldn't be a fire in a porta potty."
Edwards said he didn't have many details and the fire marshal was continuing the investigation Monday afternoon to determine the cause.
"We've got to do some more investigating," he said.
No injuries were reported and the estimated cost of damage is $6,000.
The Marshalltown Police Department assisted the MFD with this call.
