Summer Movie Marathon at the library is Monday

August 4, 2013
Times-Republican

Summer activities at the Marshalltown Public Library are winding down, but not before the Summer Movie Marathon on Monday.

This afternoon of fun, "summery" movies is for people age 18 and older and will start at noon and conclude at 5 p.m. All movies are shown in the library's Community Meeting Rooms. Moviegoers are welcome to stay for the entire marathon or to attend the movies of their choice.

In keeping with the library's movie license, titles cannot be printed, but hints may be plentiful! The first movie will begin at noon and features '60s heartthrobs Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon. There will be plenty of sand, surfing, motorcycles, skydiving and great '60s tunes in this fun, summer movie.

The second movie will start about 1:50 p.m. and stars Mickey Rooney and Gloria DeHaven as the girl next door. Love is in the air in this 1948 feature.

The marathon's third movie will begin at 3:30 p.m. and will showcase the down-home couple Marjorie Main and Percy Kilbride. This lovable couple travels from the farm to Paris in this 1953 feature.

The movie marathon is a fun, cool way to spend an August afternoon. No in-depth discussion will take place, but light conversation over popcorn and lemonade is encouraged.

Adult readers still have time to turn in their summer reading logs to be entered into a drawing for some great local prizes. Entries will be accepted until Aug. 31.

For more information, call the library at 754-5738 or check the library's website at www.marshalltownlibrary.org.
