Monday

Jose Luis Avalos Covarrubias, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge, a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a violation of a no-contact order charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. Aug. 30. Avalos Covarrubias was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered that if he owned or possessed any firearms or ammunition Avalos Covarrubias is to contact the Marshall County Sheriff's Office within 24 hours and make arrangements to surrender them. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Leonel Miramonte Alavarez, of Iowa Falls, made an initial appearance through an interpreter on a public intoxication charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning Sept. 10 until the debt is paid or in lieu of the fine and surcharge he may do 12 hours of community service plus pay court costs to be completed by Dec. 15.

On Sunday, Gracia Rodriguez, 509 Woodbury St., reported the theft of a computer from her residence valued at $549.99.

Citations

On Sunday, Tracy Lynn Johnson, of Apple Valley, Minn., was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Sunday, Alfredo Nunez, 4 W. Nevada St., was cited for dog at large.

On Aug. 5, Justin Lee Davis, 1004 S. Fifth Ave., was cited for driving while barred.

Arrests

On Sunday, Luis Miguel Ramirez, 7 N. First Ave., was arrested for interference with official acts, trespass and criminal mischief-fifth degree.

On Sunday, Leonel Miramonte Alavarez, homeless, was arrested for public intoxication.

On Sunday, Michael Joseph Curley, 12 W. Linn St., was arrested for public intoxication.

On Saturday, Rufus Whitener, 2009 S. Center St. #114, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a prescription drug or device.

On Saturday, Zachary Dean Roberts, 1401 S. 17th Ave., was arrested for violation of a no-contact order.

On Friday, Amos Frazier Chancey, 905 W. Iowa Ave. #9, was arrested for violation of a no-contact order.

Accidents

On Wednesday a car driven by Sai Loa Ho Loi, of Des Moines, was pulling into a parking spot in a lot in the 1,000 block of Marion Street when it accelerated instead of applying the brake and collided with a legally parked vehicle. No injuries were reported. Damage to the car was estimated at $3,000 while the legally parked vehicle received an estimated $100 in damage.
