Historic Binford House sports new paint on wood trim
T-R PHOTO BY MIKE DONAHEY
Pictured is Marshalltown’s stately Binford House at 110 N. Second Ave., Marshalltown. The nearly 140-year old structure, has newly painted trim courtesy of the local Martha Ellen Tye Foundation and Assistance League, among others, according to Mary Quam of Marshalltown, vice-president of scheduling for the Marshalltown Federation of Women’s Clubs. Quam said all of the structure’s trim was completely scrapped and repainted. Additionally, all windows were washed. The Victorian-Italianate style home was built by Thaddeus and Angelica Binford. Their daughter, Jessie, donated it to the Federation of Women’s Clubs in 1930. That volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organization has served as property custodian since. The Binford House is a year ‘round popular destination for meetings, receptions, tours and other events.
