Lenihan Intermediate School art teacher Pamela Muench has been named the 2013 Outstanding Elementary Art Educator by the Art Educators of Iowa.

Muench, art teacher at Lenihan Intermediate School, has proven vital to the success of her students. So much, in fact that she has been named the 2013 Outstanding Elementary Art Educator by the Art Educators of Iowa. She is excited to receive the statewide honor.

"It's a great honor," Muench said. "There are so many outstanding art teachers in our state."

Fellow Lenihan teacher Karen Roessler said Muench has the ability to reach a wide range of students in her classes.

"Pam's teaching abilities are not limited to those students with an innate love of art or artistic talent," Roessler said. "I have seen her work wonders with students who have significant behavioral issues, autism, and even the fear of art. Her patience, clear and high expectations, organizational skills and artistic abilities create a classroom environment where it is safe to create personally authentic art projects."

Muench grew up in Marshalltown and now lives in State Center. She has taught in the Marshalltown district since 2000. She will receive the award at the AEI banquet the Oct. 12 in Cedar Rapids

"It's rewarding to be honored for working hard and helping students," Muench said.
