BONDURANT - The West Marshall volleyball team got 28 kills from Jenn Davis, 81 assists from Alarie Craven and 47 digs from Claire Underwood Saturday in the Bondurant-Farrar Tournament, but the Trojans finished the day 1-5.
West Des Moines Valley handed West Marshall a 21-12, 22-20 defeat and then Pella downed the Trojans 21-19, 21-17.
West Marshall's match against Davis County went three games but the Mustangs took the match 15-21, 21-17, 15-9.
The lone win came against Perry as West Marshall (1-6) dumped the Bluejays 21-19, 21-16, but then lost to Woodward-Granger (21-10, 21-12) and Des Moines Christian (21-15, 21-8) in straight sets.
Brandy Wilkey had 19 kills and eight aces on the day for West Marshall, while Craven also had 26 digs and Underwood was 42-of-42 in serves.
The Trojans' next match will be at home against Waterloo Columbus at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Upward Basketball adds Skills Evaluation Night
Upward Basketball is adding another Skills Evaluation Night prior to the 2013 season, which begins with games Oct. 26 and ends Dec. 14.
The last chance evaluation night will be Tuesday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. for children grades 1-6 who wish to play in the Upward Basketball league. The evaluation process takes 20-30 minutes, and will be held at New Hope Christian Church at 3901 S. Center St. in Marshalltown.
