Former Tiger Santos signs contract with native Brazil

Joining former Marshalltown Community College teammates Tyler Brown and Will Clyburn, Luiz Paulo Santos signed a professional contract to play in Brazil on Wednesday.

Santos will play for Liga Sorocabana de Basquete (LSB) in Sorocaba, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Brown and Clyburn also have signed professional contracts overseas within the past two months.

Santos, who is originally from Sao Paulo, averaged 3.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game in 21 games during his sophomore season in Marshalltown. The former Tiger power forward played for MCC from 2009-2011.

After his time in Marshalltown was complete, Santos transferred to NCAA Division II Slippery Rock, where he started 56 of his 58 career games and earned Defensive Player of the Year honors in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

Santos averaged 6.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and blocked 73 shots while hitting 51.7 percent from the floor.

The LSB pariticpates in the NBB, which is the premier professional men's basketball league in Brazil. LSB finished runner-up at the 2011 Super Copa Brasil.

Brown signed a professional contract in France and Clyburn inked a deal with a professional team in Germany this past summer.
