After visiting Taylor's Maid-Rite several times last week with his friend, Sydney Kenner, Marshalltown High School senior Luke Reinert had an idea.
Reinert asked Kenner, a sophomore at MHS, to the Homecoming dance via a question on the Maid-Rite sign last Friday. The message read "Sydney, Homecoming? Luke"
Kenner quickly accepted the offer.
Marshalltown High School sophomore Sydney Kenner gives a double “thumbs up” in response to a Homecoming date offer from senior Luke Reinert via a message on the Taylor’s Maid-Rite sign.
"I took her up there on Friday and she was surprised her name was on the Maid-Ride board," Reinert said. "It was fun."
Kenner said she was caught off guard by the sign.
"It was surprising actually," Kenner said. "I was excited to see my name up there."
She has gotten plenty of feedback from family and friends who have either seen the sign in person or a picture of it on social media.
"Random people have been telling me about how cute it is," Kenner said.
Nancy Hulsizer, manager of Maid-Rite, said they were receptive to Reinert's idea and were happy to be a part of it.
"It was kind of fun for us," Hulsizer said.
Homecoming week starts Sept. 16 at MHS. The parade and king and queen coronation is Sept. 19, the football game is Sept. 20 and the dance is from 8 to 11 p.m. Sept. 21 in the MHS cafeteria.
