COLUMBUS, Neb. - The unrelenting Marshalltown Community College volleyball team could not get a win no matter the circumstance.

The Tigers fell twice on the first day of the New World Inn/Jimmy John's Classic hosted by Central (Neb.) CC, losing 3-0 to both Northeast (Neb.) and Butler (Kan.) on Friday night.

Northeast held off MCC 25-18, 25-19, 25-15, and then it was Butler's turn to withstand the Tigers, 25-20, 25-23, 27-25.

Against Northeast, Marshalltown was led by Miranda Smith and Reeba Box with five kills apiece. Meghann Cole added four kills and Katelyn Yauslin had three. Sam Hinrichs finished with 18 assists.

Libero player Ashley Salgado charted 38 digs while Alyssa Whitmore and Box both had 12. Smith's four total blocks were a team high.

Smith notched nine kills and three blocks to lead MCC in the loss to Butler. Box and Hinrichs had seven kills apiece, Yauslin added five and Amanda Keane four, but the Tigers were charged with 22 swinging errors and a .071 hitting percentage for the match.

Hinrichs finished with 16 assists and three blocks, Yauslin also had three blocks, while Salgado led the way with 40 digs. Box (21), Whitmore (20) and Yauslin (15) each contributed double-digit digs as well.
