Louis "Louie" Hibbs, 75, of rural Marshalltown, died September 7, 2013 at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at the Main St. Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at New Hope Christian Church with Pastor Kerry Jech officiating. Burial will follow in Marietta Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Marshall County 4-H Foundation for a youth scholarship.
Louie was born on December 9, 1937 in Marshalltown to Russell V. and Edna (Goecke) Hibbs. He attended school in Conrad until his sophomore year and then moved to the Albion area. He graduated from Albion High School in 1956. He farmed in the Albion area and raised cattle all his adult life. He married Carolyn "Susie" Zimmerman January 19, 1958 at the Minerva Church. Three sons were born to the couple: Jeff, Rod and Rusty.
He was a member of 4-H while growing up in Conrad in the Felix Future Farmers Club and also in the Marietta Clippers 4-H Club in Marshall County. He later served several years as a 4-H leader of the Marietta Clippers. Louie sold seed for several years as Hibbs & Sons Dekalb Seed. He served on the boards of FHA, Farm Credit Services, Marshall County Cattlemen and the Iowa Cattlemen. In 1994 he received the Hall of Fame Award at the Central Iowa Fair.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Susie; three sons, Jeff (Christy) of Albion, Rod (LuAnn) of Brenham, TX, and Rusty (Carol) of Conrad. Louie is also survived by his grandchildren: Hannah Hibbs, Tanner Hibbs and Taylor Hibbs Goff (Jimmy).
He is preceded in death by his parents and grandchildren, Tyler, Kate and David Hibbs.
