Crews from Alliant Energy are shown preparing to trim back tree branches in the 1000th block of South Sixth Street Tuesday afternoon. A branch fell on a transmission line in the area just before 3 p.m., according to Capt. Mike Hanken with the Marshalltown Police Department. Power was out for many in the downtown and a major portion of the west side of Marshalltown. “A tree branch fell on a transmission line, which supplies many more customers that a regular power line,” said Heather Holmes, an Alliant Energy spokesperson. “No one was at fault for the branch falling, it simply was the life cycle of the tree.” Power was restored at approximately 3:40 p.m. and South Sixth Street was reopened to traffic.
