Teen, shot in head, expected to fully recover

Police continue investigation

A Marshalltown teenager who showed up at the local ER with a gunshot wound to the head is expected to make a full recovery, police said Wednesday.

Mario G. Murrillo, 17, sought treatment for the injury at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

No charges have been filed in the investigation.

"We're truly still trying to piece together what happened from the stories we've been given," Police Chief Mike Tupper said. "We're trying to make sense of it all."

An altercation took place in the 600 block of West State Street, according to initial reports, he said.

Also injured was Dedrick M. Fisher, 19, an acquaintance of Murrillo's who was with him Tuesday evening, Tupper said. Fisher was treated injuries suffered in a physical fight.

Murrillo was being kept at MMSC for observation Wednesday afternoon, Tupper said.
