A Marshalltown man may have died of an accidental gunshot wound Sunday morning.

"It's safe to say there are no suspects we are looking for at this time," said Capt. Mike Hanken with the Marshalltown Police Department.

The man was discovered at 6:28 a.m. Sunday morning inside the residence at 12 W. Grant St.

Police were dispatched when a woman called 911 reporting his death. Police had earlier responded to the area for a call about gunshots just before 5 a.m., however officers didn't find any evidence at that time.

Hanken said the department treats all death investigations as suspicious until they know otherwise.

"It's looking like an accidental death at this time," he said. "We have not found any evidence to lead us to believe it was suicide."

Hanken said, however, the MPD treats all death investigations as suspicious until they can prove otherwise.

The MPD and the Division of Criminal Investigation are investigating. An autopsy will be performed Tuesday, Hanken said.

The name of the deceased is not being released until notification of the family has been complete.
