A 33-year-old Marshalltown man has been identified by police as the victim in an apparent accidental shooting Sunday morning.

Daniel Berg was discovered about 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning inside the residence at 12 W. Grant St.

Police were dispatched when a woman called 911 reporting his death. Police had earlier responded to the area for a call about gunshots just before 5 a.m., however officers didn't find any evidence at that time.

The Marshalltown Police Department and the Division of Criminal Investigation are investigating, but few details were released Monday about the investigation.

"So far it appears to be a tragic and accidental death," said Capt. Mike Hanken with the Marshalltown Police Department.

Funeral services for Berg will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday.
