Homecoming king, queen announced at coronation

The "Knights of the Roundhouse" king and queen were announced at the Marshalltown High School Homecoming coronation in the Roundhouse Thursday night.

Derek Mann was pronounced king and Cecillia Chavarria was pronounced queen.

Chavarria is the daughter of Faviola and Rene.

"I was just excited and thankful for all the people that voted for me," Chavarria said.

Mann is the son of Duane and Tina.

"It's great knowing that your peers like you and vote for you," Mann said. "It's hard to describe, but it's awesome."

In addition to the crowning, a pork dinner was held to raise money for renovation to the Roundhouse.

Aiddy Phomvisay, Marshalltown High School principal said they are over $300,000, well on the way to get the $1 million Martha-Ellen Tye Foundation match.

"We are well on our way, we've got a lot more to go," Phomvisay said. "With the support of our community and the tremendous turnout tonight, I know we will get there and together we will get there because we are Bobcat Nation."

The next Homecoming festivity is the varsity football game Friday, against Ames at Leonard Cole Field at 7 p.m. On Saturday the Homecoming dance will be held in the Marshalltown High School cafeteria from 8 - 11 p.m.
