NEVADA - Fourth-ranked West Marshall won its 25th consecutive district football game on Friday night, firing past Nevada for a 35-0 shutout in Class 2A District 7 play.

The Trojans (4-0, 1-0) got a season-high 247 rushing yards from senior tailback Duncan Ferch, whose two-touchdown performance included a 97-yard TD scamper in the third quarter.

West Marshall broke open a 14-0 game with 21 points in the third period. Nolan Sinning hauled in a 12-yard touchdown pass from Matt Van Metre, and Devin Chesler tacked on a 1-yard TD plunge to bring the score to its final.

Daniel Kelly's 10-yard touchdown run accounted for West Marshall's second-quarter score, giving the Trojans their 14-0 halftime lead on the way to their sixth straight win over Nevada (1-3, 0-2).

Ferch's 97-yard touchdown run was the second-longest scoring run in school history, trailing only his brother Dalton Ferch's 98-yard dash against Roland-Story during the 2010 campaign.

Chesler finished with 92 yards on eight carries for West Marshall, and his 17 tackles led the Trojan defense to its second shutout win. Jared Johnson added 12 tackles, Carsen Dunn had a fumble recovery and Elijah Streeter picked off a pass.

The District 2 clash came down to defense as expected, with the visiting Cougars (5-0, 2-0) pitching their third shutout of the season in this run-heavy contest.

The 5-0 start is the best since Ackley-Geneva and Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock began sharing sports. It's the collective programs' best start since Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock went 9-0 during the 1995 regular season. Ackley-Geneva's previous best start was an 8-0 open in 1987.

The Homecoming king Hill had scoring runs of 55, 55 and 28 yards for C-N (2-3, 2-1), which led 20-6 at the half but had to hold on for the win.

Trevor Barnett ran for two fourth-quarter touchdowns for the visiting Eagles, but Hill's 25-yard interception return for a score with 38 seconds remaining provided the Royals with the final margin.

Evan Webb and Clayton Bryan had 10 tackles apiece to lead Colo-NESCO, while Casy Angell had eight tackles - five for loss - with two quarterback sacks and one fumble recovery. Hill and Noah Gibbons both had an interception.

Colo-NESCO goes on the road to face Lamoni in district play next week.
