The trial for a man accused of killing a Marshalltown woman in July has been postponed until early next year.

Mathew Irving, 40, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of local woman Rebecca Hall.

A trial originally scheduled for Oct. 22 has been rescheduled for Feb. 25, 2014.

Hall's body was discovered in a minivan east of Marshalltown on July 14. According to a police report, Irving argued with Hall after they had been sexually intimate.

Irving said he used both his hands to choke Hall and left the scene knowing she was dead, according to the report.

Irving told a judge at his initial court appearance, "I didn't really mean to kill her."

If convicted, Irving faces a life sentence without parole.
