Marshall County Public Health Nurse Pat Thompson advises area residents to get their flu vaccination early as opportunities exist to get that done.
"Getting your shot early is the best way to protect yourself," Thompson said.
Thompson said getting the vaccination can not only help the person receiving it, but also the people they interact with.
"We want people to help protect each other from it," Thompson said.
She said it's too early to tell what kind of flu season it will be this winter. It usually peaks in January or February, but it came to the area earlier than that last year.
"It can start any time," Thompson said.
There also should be plenty of vaccine to go around this season.
"There shouldn't be a problem with supply," she said.
Vaccinations are available through local physicians, pharmacies and through Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center Home Care Plus.
