Clair Eugene Erwin, 88, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away October 5, 2013, under the care of Iowa River Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Laurel United Methodist Church or Iowa River Hospice. Clair was born January 13, 1925, to Elsie and William Erwin of Laurel Iowa. He graduated in 1943, from Laurel High School and married his soul mate Dorothy Mae Wolgamott on December 31, 1944; after they were married Clair served his Country Honorably in the United States Navy from 1945, until 1949. Dorothy and Clair celebrated their 68 anniversary this past December. Clair and Dorothy were partners in managing their farm in Laurel until 1987, when they retired and moved to Marshalltown. Clair was a long time member of the Laurel Methodist Church and the Laurel American Legion Harold McBroom Unit #635.
Clair is survived by his 3 children; Shirley Yieres of Oxford Iowa, Joan Anderson of Lincoln, Nebraska and Jim Erwin of Marshalltown, and a brother, Charles Erwin of Marshalltown, a sister, Donna Whannell of Grinnell, Iowa, as well as 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Clair was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, both parents, a sister, Darlene Cross and brother, Thomas Erwin.
Clair was a faithful husband, a loved brother, a dedicated father, a loving grandfather and great grandfather, uncle and a friend to many. We rejoice and celebrate his life on earth.
