The Marshalltown Community College volleyball team charted five consecutive wins last week, and on Tuesday the Tigers piled on some more.
MCC freshman Meghann Cole and sophomore Alyssa Whitmore were named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference's volleyball Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, the league announced.
The Tigers ran their win streak to six with last week's five, spurred by the play of the aforementioned pair. Whitmore, an East Marshall High School graduate, stepped in as MCC's primary libero after an injury to starter Ashley Salgado and notched 45 digs over three matches. Whitmore totaled 74 digs for the week.
Cole sparked MCC's first win over Iowa Central since 2009 with a career-high 17 kills last Wednesday night at the Student Activity Center. The freshman from West Des Moines Valley had double-digit kills during the Tigers' trip to the NIACC Tournament over the weekend and finished the week with 48 kills. Her 226 kills rank sixth in the ICCAC.
Marshalltown goes on the road for conference play tonight, venturing to Iowa Falls for an ICCAC Division II showdown with Ellsworth.
