Marshalltown Police took three people into custody as material witnesses in the recent murder of a Garwin man.

Bradd A. Quigley, 26, of Marshalltown, Douglas E. Cadotte, 40, of Tama, and Alexah M. Mauskemo, 19, of Montour, were taken into custody Thursday, said Police Chief Mike Tupper.

Quigley remains in custody on the material witness warrant and Cadotte is being held for an OWI arrest. Mauskemo was released and the warrant was dismissed, Tupper said.

Police discovered the body of David Warnell, 59, last week after they received a tip about a suspicious death. Two Marshalltown men - Jeremy A. Gartin, 30, and Max E. Nelson Jr., 55 - are charged in connection with Warnell's murder. Police say his body, which was discovered at Gartin's home, was mutilated post-mortem.

"We believe we have the people responsible for what happened, but there may be other people in the community with knowledge about the crime," Tupper said.

Gartin is charged with first-degree murder and Nelson is charged with accessory after the fact, abuse of a corpse and first-degree theft.

Both Gartin and Nelson are being held without bond at the Marshall County Jail.
