Sodders, Smith helped students succeed

October 20, 2013
Maddison Wignall, Marshalltown , Times-Republican

My name is Maddison Wignall and I'm a native of Marshalltown, studying Chemistry and Finance, Pre-Law, at the University of Iowa. Aside from my studies, I'm involved in University of Iowa Student Government as a Senator, College Republicans, Sailing Club and I am a pharmacy technician at Medicap Pharmacy both in Marshalltown and Cedar Rapids. My majors in combination with my other experiences have truly made my education at the University of Iowa remarkable.

I would not be able to be the engaged student that I am today without the help of the Iowa Legislature. When the legislature passed the in-state undergraduate tuition freeze for the 2013-2014 school year, it greatly relieved the pressure of the increase in higher education costs. By not having to worry as much about how I would pay for college, I am able to direct my attention to enriching my educational experience.

Today I would like to thank Sen. Steve Sodders and Rep. Mark Smith for supporting the tuition freeze. I appreciate that my local delegation stands by my school, the University of Iowa and more importantly me as a student.

I could not imagine attending any other university. Again, thank you Sen. Sodders and Rep. Smith for helping me attain the education I need and supporting my efforts at the University of Iowa.
