IOWA CITY - For the first time in program history, a freshman on the Iowa football team was honored by the Big Ten.

Desmond King, who has been a starting cornerback for the Hawkeyes all season, recorded a career-high 12 tackles in Iowa's road loss to Ohio State on Saturday and was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday.

Ten of the 12 tackles were solos for King, who ranks second among all Big Ten freshman in tackles, averaging nearly six per game.

King and the Hawkeye defense held the Buckeyes to more than 12 points below their season average. It was King's first career weekly award.

The Hawkeyes are back in action Saturday when they host rival Northwestern at 11 a.m. inside Kinnick Stadium.
