Man on warrant arrested for theft

A local man was arrested for allegedly stealing more than $7,000 worth of tools.

Jeremy F. Carroll, 34, was arrested Tuesday on Noble Street on a warrant he received for allegedly stealing $7,414.23 of flooring tools from a storage warehouse.

Police say Carroll stole the tools Sept. 11 on the 800 block of East Main Street. According to police reports he then sold the tools to a local pawn shop, then a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Officers found him at his mother's house Tuesday and arrested him. He was charged with third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Crystal Deanne Pinney, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-second offense charge, a failure to obey a traffic control device charge, a no driver's license charge, a no insurance charge and a striking fixtures charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle her case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Nov. 8. Pinney was released on her own recognizance. The court ordered that she obtain a substance abuse evaluation as a condition of release and submit the results to the court within 60 days of today's date.

Ernesto Ruiz Silva, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The contempt hearing is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. on Nov. 6. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety. The court ordered that if he owned or possessed any firearms or ammunition, Ruiz Silva is to contact the Marshall County Sheriff's Office within 24 hours to make arrangements to surrender them. A new no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Travis James Jordan, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge and a no insurance charge. He pleaded guilty to both charges and was fined $250 on each count with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 on each charge due within 30 days of today's date.

Kevin D. Bolle, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a simple assault charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days of today's date.

Tyler John Reisinger, 311 N. 12th Ave., made an initial appearance on a possession of a Schedule I controlled substance charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Nov. 8. The court ordered that he be photographed and fingerprinted.

Christopher Lyle Varnum, of Rhodes, made an initial appearance on a forgery charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Oct. 30. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety. If bond is made, then Varnum is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services.

Austin Gregory Moser, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a theft-third degree charge and a failure to appear for an arraignment hearing charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle both cases. On the theft-third degree charge, the preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Oct. 30. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. If bond is made, then Moser is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services. The arraignment hearing is rescheduled for 1 p.m. on Oct. 29. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety and if made, he is released through DCS.

Wednesday

Jeremy Franklin Carroll, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a theft-third degree charge, a burglary-second degree charge, a theft-first degree charge and a burglary-third degree charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Nov. 1. Bond is set at a total of $12,000 cash or surety for all charges.

Arthur Clinton Downs, 508 S. Sixth St., made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order. The court appointed Jeffrey Hazen as counsel. A scheduling hearing will take place at 9 a.m. on Oct. 28 in Magistrate Court to schedule the contempt of court hearing. Downs was released on his own recognizance. A new no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

On Tuesday, Arthur Clinton Downs, 508 S. Sixth St., was arrested for violation of a no-contact order.

On Monday, Crystal Deanne Pinney, 207 N. 13th St., was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

On Monday, April Sue Stanley, 403 S. First St., was arrested for theft-fifth degree.

On Saturday, Jonathan Robert Thompson, of Osage, was arrested for pre-trial violation.

On Oct. 17, Casey Eugene Sheriff, 311 Sharon Ave., was arrested for escape from custody.

Accidents

On Monday, a vehicle driven by Peter William Kelley, 905 Benjamin Drive, was eastbound on Garwin Road when it struck a deer that entered the traveled portion of the roadway from the south ditch. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Kelley vehicle was estimated at $1,726.

On Saturday, a minivan driven by Thoeun Khann, of Grinnell, was southbound on Zeller Avenue when it struck two deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Khann minivan was estimated at $3,000.

On Oct. 11, a vehicle driven by Lisa Marie Ojeda, of Tama, was eastbound on Highway 30 in the outside lane approaching the 18th Avenue off ramp when it attempted to merge into the inside lane causing a vehicle driven by Katrina L. Reger, of Brookfield, Wis., to take evasive action which resulted in it entering the median and rolling several times before coming to rest. Reger was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Damage to the Reger vehicle was estimated at $6,000.

Accidents

On Monday, a vehicle driven by Shawn Krenz, age 28, of Grundy Center, was westbound on 190th Street west of R Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Krenz vehicle was estimated at $2,500.

On Friday, a vehicle driven by Roberta Petersen, age 45, of Dike, was westbound on 130th Street west of X Avenue when it struck a deer that entered the traveled portion of the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Petersen vehicle was estimated at $2,000.

On Friday, a vehicle driven by Mikel Wiemann, age 37, of Webster City, was westbound on Highway 20 when a deer entered the roadway and was struck. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Wiemann vehicle was estimated at $4,000.

On Oct. 16, a vehicle driven by Brenda Beckman, age 51, of Iowa Falls, was traveling westbound on Highway 20 in the outside lane when it attempted to move into the inside lane and collided with a vehicle driven by Elaine Loring, age 51, of Iowa Falls, which was also traveling west in the inside lane. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Beckman vehicle was estimated at $2,500 while the Loring vehicle received an estimated $1,500 in damage.

On Oct. 3, a vehicle driven by Christina Berends, age 29, of Grundy Center, was southbound on Highway 14 just north of Grundy Center when it struck a battery in the roadway causing damage to her vehicle. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Berends vehicle was estimated at $2,000.
