Way excited up for Halloween

October 29, 2013

I can't remember a Halloween where I've had this much anticipation heading into it.

For one, I have a 5-year-old girl in my household who is bouncing off the walls as the holiday nears.

We still have candy left over from parade season, so I guess she is more excited about dressing up like a princess and walking around the neighborhood.

For once in several years, I am going to put some thought into my costume too. The past few years I took the easy way out and donned a robot costume made out of a few boxes and silver spray paint.

This year, I had a plan to go in a different direction.

For months I have been saving wrappers from my favorite sandwich shop. I will take these wrappers and encircle my body effectively turning me into one of these sandwiches.

I won't stop there as I plan to have lettuce come out of my collar and some type of bread fixture on my head.

I was hoping to surprise more people with the costume, but the word has leaked out. I guess I wasn't a very good reporter holding onto my scoop on this one.

I've been really surprised at how many friends and family can't wait to see me in this costume. I would have thought they would be used to me making a fool out of myself in the past. I guess I will reach a whole new level of foolishness with this costume.

This could have the potential to be one of the best costumes I've had in my adult life. Although that is not saying much as I've rarely devoted too much time to the holiday. I did make a mean Dwight Schrute from "The Office" a few years ago when we attended a party.

So over the next few days my daughter and I will glue these wrappers onto paper and hopefully everything will work out. She can hardly wait to get started on this project with me.

I guess now you can see why there is so much excitement in my household.

I hope you have a fun and safe Halloween. Watch out for a 6-foot-long sandwich in your neighborhood.
