Stanley M. Fagerland, 93

Stanley Magnus Fagerland, 93, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Monday, October 28, 2013, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 31st at Hope United Methodist Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. He will be laid to rest in the Evergreen Cemetery at Grand Mound, Iowa at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2013. Memorials may be directed to his family. Born on April 1, 1920, in Calamus, Iowa, he was the son of John and Gurine (Stueland) Fagerland. He graduated with the Grand Mound High School's Class of 1938. He attended Iowa State University for one year. Stan served our country honorably from July 1945 until the next year. On September 23rd, 1941, he was united in marriage to Ruth Rock. She passed away on August 18th, 2003. Stanley was blessed with the love and companionship of Helen Berger and the two were married and made their home in Marshalltown. Stan was an active member of the community. He was a charter member of the Hope United Methodist Church (serving as treasurer), Central Iowa Underwriters, American Legion 50 year member, the Masonic Lodge, Marshalltown Evening Lions Club for over 35 years (serving all offices and President as well as recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship, Lion of the Year and the Warren Coleman Award), life member of the VFW, American Legion 40 & 8 (serving many offices) and enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and doing crosswords. Stan was very giving of his time as he was a volunteer at MMSC and Iowa River Hospice. He was employed by Farm Bureau, Mutual of Omaha, and the US Post Office for 19 years. At retirement, he began working for Hy-Vee.

Left to cherish his memory are Helen, his loving wife of nine years, his daughters: Sandy (Richard) Hickland of Salem, NY, and Susan (David) Carter of Runnells, Iowa, his step-children: Duane (Shari) Berger of Lansing, Michigan and Cheryl (Rod) Musser of Des Moines, eleven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and ten step-great-grandchildren as well as his siblings Signe Rock of Wheatland, Iowa, Bob (Ida) Fagerland of Des Moines and sister-in-law Evelyn Fagerland of Maquoketa, and many friends.

In death, he rejoined his beloved Ruthie, his parents and brother Johnny.
