Mildred Cordes, 93, of Marshalltown, died early Monday morning, October 28, 2013, at the Iowa Veterans Home.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 31, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until the service time. Family interment rites will be held Friday morning. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234.
Born on May 26, 1920, at home in Stuart, Iowa. She was the youngest of eight children born to William and Cora (Lfow) Mallatt. Her family moved to Beaman at a young age and she graduated from the Beaman High School.
At the beginning of WWII, Mildred was married to the young and handsome Stanley Cordes, soon to be off to war. Upon his return, they made their home in Marshalltown. Mildred was an awesome mother, cook, and loved the company of others. In later years, she and Stanley enjoyed winters in Arizona and two trips to Hawaii.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Steve (Deb) Cordes of Marshalltown, Mike Cordes of Melbourne, daughter-in-law Vicki Cordes of Ames, and grandchildren: Trisha Cordes, Alex Gull both of Marshalltown, Josh Cordes and his son Chance of Conrad, Shelly (Doug) Olsan of Huxley and their children Max, Jack and Rex and Rob (Julie) Hannusch of West Des Moines and their sons Zach and Noah, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In death, she rejoined her husband who died in 1993, her parents, grandsons Scott and Jason, her son Richard "Rick" Cordes in 2010 and her siblings- twin brother Melvin, and sisters: Clara, Lucille, Dorothy, Opal and Fern, and Farrah.
