GARWIN - One woman is dead and a man injured following a house explosion Thursday in rural Tama County.
It's believed the man had been working on a furnace repair at the time of the explosion, said Tama County Sheriff Dennis Kucera, however the cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
The victims' names are not being released, pending family notifications.

Firefighters in Tama County were dispatched after the report of an explosion around 9:30 a.m. Upon arrival, the house at 1207 230th St., west of Garwin, was completely engulfed in flames.
The man was transported by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals burn unit after firefighters arrived on scene. When the fire was extinguished Thursday afternoon, the woman's body was discovered.
The home was completely destroyed. The state fire marshal and the Gladbrook and Garwin fire departments are still investigating.
According to the Tama County Assessor's website the home is owned by Bruce and Mary Appelgate.
