With a teacher as a mother, Sam Irwin doesn't have to look far for advice on how to be a success at school.

Irwin, 14, is in eighth grade at Miller Middle School. His mother, Michele Irwin, teaches at Woodbury Elementary School.

"She's a good role model for me in my life," Sam Irwin said of his mother.

Miller Middle School eighth grader Sam Irwin is pictured in the school gym recently.

Irwin is a student who is able to juggle different activities and his school work, said Nicole Allen, his physical education teacher at Miller.

Irwin recently completed a fall season which saw him take part in both football and cross country.

"He is confident and he is a good leader," Allen said.

Irwin was selected to take part in the Annual Super Power Summit - Youth Wellness Initiative last month at the State Historical Museum. The conference was focused on ways to keep kids healthy.

"Sam was chosen because he is a superior role model for his fellow peers," Allen said.
