BIG FOUR HOOPS: Drake drubs Central men in exhibition basketball

DES MOINES - The Drake University men's basketball team used a 13-0 run to start the second half and break away from Central College in the Bulldogs' 90-70 exhibition victory on Sunday at the Knapp Center.

Gary Ricks Jr., in his second season after transferring from Indian Hills Community College, led Drake with 19 points. Richard Carter added 15 points, Blake Danielak had 12 off the bench, and Aaron Hawley chipped in 10 and a team-high six rebounds.

Drake's 13-0 second-half surge was a part of a 23-1 Bulldog rally spanning both halves.

Chris Caird, a former Marshalltown Community College standout, contributed five points and three rebounds in 16 minutes of action for Drake.

Central College's Nile Eckermann scored a game-high 20 points, making 6-of-12 shots from 3-point range.

Sophomore guard Austin Hauser, a 2012 Marshalltown High School graduate, tallied two points, three rebounds and an assist in 11 minutes for the Dutch.

Iowa Stata 90, Augustana (S.D.) 68

AMES - Senior transfer DeAndre Kane led Iowa State with 19 points and 10 rebounds in an exhibition win over Augustana College (S.D.) at Hilton Coliseum.

True freshman Matt Thomas added 16 points, Mont Morris scored 11 off the bench, and Georges Niang tallied 10 points and a game-high six assists for the Cyclones.

Matt Brazendale led Augustana with 21 points on 9-of-20 shooting.

Iowa 87, Augustana (Ill.) 65

IOWA CITY - Aaron White and Zach McCabe scored 16 points apiece and Adam Woodbury had a double-double as Iowa downed Augustana College (Ill.) in exhibition play Sunday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Woodbury had 10 points and a team-leading 11 rebounds as the Hawkeyes got out to a 46-32 halftime lead.

Mark Roth made three 3-pointers on his way to a team-high 11 points for Augustana. Ben Ryan added eight points and 11 rebounds.

WOMEN

Iowa 92, Concordia 68

IOWA CITY - Bethany Doolittle shot 10-for-16 from the field on the way to a game-high 20 points, leading the Iowa women's basketball team to an exhibition victory over Concordia University (Minn.).

Melissa Dixon made four 3-pointers en route to 18 points, and true freshman Ally Disterhoft (Iowa City West) racked up 13 points and six rebounds off the bench for the Hawkeyes.

Iowa led 51-35 at the half over the St. Paul-based Golden Bears.

Anika Whiting chalked up 16 points and eight rebounds for Concordia.

Kachine Alexander, an Associated Press honorable mention All-American and three-time all-Big Ten guard at Iowa, is an assistant coach on the Golden Bears staff.
