A man turned in an application to work at Sports Page Wednesday and moments later stole $153 worth of merchandise.

Lawrence C. Briggs, 18, of Chicago, is charged with fifth-degree theft and interference with official acts.

Briggs made off with a Nike T-shirt, a black hooded jacket and an L.A. Dodgers cap, according to police.

Police and store management reviewed security footage and then scheduled Briggs to come back to the store, 2500 S. Center St., for a job interview on Friday.

When he arrived, Briggs admitted to stealing the items and was apprehended. He was charged with interference with official acts for refusing to be handcuffed.
