Man arrested with $1,200 in pot

A Marshalltown man who was found with $1,200 worth of marijuana in the pockets of his clothing was arrested Saturday.

Justin S. Welder, 22, was charged at about 11:30 p.m. on the 10 block of South Third Street after he was pulled over for a traffic violation.

According to police, when an officer approached the vehicle it smelled of marijuana. Officers asked Welder to step out of the car, and a subsequent search led them to find three ounces of marijuana in multiple baggies in the pockets of his clothes.

Welder is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, a Class D felony.

Local man arrested for assaulting girlfriend

A man who allegedly shoved his girlfriend to the ground during an argument has been arrested.

Justin P. Bittner, 31, was arrested Tuesday, following the alleged incident that took place at their home on the 400 block of East State Street.

According to police, officers were called to the home for a welfare check. The victim reported Bittner knocked her down to the ground during an argument and when she went to call 911 he broke her phone and then left.

A patrolling officer found Bittner walking downtown. After the investigation police charged him with simple domestic assault and obstruction of emergency communications, both simple misdemeanors.

Justin Bittner, 409 E. State St., made an initial appearance on a obstruction of emergency communications charge and a simple domestic abuse charge. He pleaded guilty to both charges. On the obstruction of emergency communications he was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. The fine on the simple domestic abuse charge was also $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $10 domestic violence coalition fee and $60 in court costs for a total of $157.75 plus a two day jail sentence with time served to be completed by March 15, 2014. The court ordered that he complete a batterer's education program course by July 31, 2014. The fines may be paid on a $50 per month schedule beginning Dec. 10 until the debts are paid in full. The court ordered that if he owned or possessed any firearms or ammunition, Bittner is to contact the Marshall County Sheriff's Office within 24 hours and make arrangements to surrender them. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party for a period of five years from today or until the court should lift the order.

Yimmi Antonio Molina, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a violation of pre-trial release charge and a failure to appear for arraignment charge. Norma Meade will continue appointment as counsel. The arraignment hearing will be rescheduled by the District Court as its docket permits. Bond on the pre-trial violation is set at $10,000 cash or surety.

Dayton Gilmore, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a criminal mischief-fourth degree charge and a shooting a slingshot with lead shot within the State Center city limits charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Dec. 2. Gilmore was released on his own recognizance.
