CEDAR FALLS - A career-high 17 tackles and two interceptions against Missouri State on Saturday has earned Northern Iowa junior Tate Omli honors from both the Missouri Valley Football Conference and College Sports Madness.

Omli, a junior college transfer from Kansas, was named MVFC Defensive Player of the Week and the College Sports Madness National Defensive Player of the Week. These are both first-time honors for Omli.

The Panthers defeated Missouri State 17-10 on Saturday and Omli's 17-tackle performance was just two tackles shy of 10th all-time for a single game at Northern Iowa.

Omli's second interception of the game came late in the fourth quarter when Missouri State was trying to tie the game. The pick came on fourth-and-four with less than 3 minutes to go in the game. UNI's offense was then able to run out the clock to preserve the win.

Omli, who has 50 tackles on the season, and the Panthers will host Western Illinois at the UNI-Dome at 4 p.m. Saturday.
