Eldon "Shorty" Mann 85, of Marshalltown passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Marshalltown, Iowa with his loving family by his side.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 22, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the 11:00a.m. service time on Friday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Eldon L. Mann was born on July 7, 1929; he was the son of Donald and Helen Amelia (Otten) Mann. . He was raised and attended school in the Laurel and Ferguson areas. In June of 1946, Eldon and Peggy( Rutherford) were united in marriage, 3 sons were born to this union, Randall, Russell and Robin. Shorty farmed until 1960 and then worked at Bob's Feed and Supply that was later known as Mid Iowa Coop until his retirement in 1995, after retirement, Eldon helped with spring and fall work at Mid Iowa Coop and helped Ray Elliot with the harvest. Shorty attended Sunday school and Church in the Laurel Evangelical Church. On January 17, 1986 Eldon was united in marriage to Carolyn Van Meter and they have reside in Marshalltown. He grew up loving cars and always enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, his favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt, he also enjoyed playing pool with others at the Senior Center and spending time with friend's on Tuesday and Thursdays at FBC. Shorty enjoyed country music; his favorite singers were Ray Price, Mel Tillis and George Strait. He and Carolyn enjoyed dancing to their favorite song "Could I Have This Dance" by Anne Murray. Eldon received Jesus as his Savior and was baptized in December of 2009.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Carolyn of Marshalltown, Iowa. Children: Randall(Myra) Mann, Russell(Ellen) Mann and Robin (Pam) Mann, 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Step-children, Phyllis (Ron), Bruce, Brian (Becca), and Brad (Deb), 12 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren.
In death Eldon rejoins his parents, Helen and Donald, baby daughter, sister, Marjorie Burns and Step-mother Ruth Mann and 2 granddaughters, Haley and Stacey.
