Alfred Phillip Dittmar, 89, of Marshalltown, IA, passed away Monday, November 18, 2013, at the Iowa Veterans Home, in Marshalltown. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel, in Marshalltown. Alfred was the first of nine children born on April 13, 1924 in Dubuque, IA to Philipp and Grace Louise (Dresden) Dittmar. Al was a true patriot and loved his country. He served throughout his career in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. Over the past three years his favorite pastime was being a passenger in his own specially equipped Rollx Ford Van. He never missed an opportunity to go on an outing to every Military Base and US landmark throughout the Midwest. For the past 15 years, Alfred has been a resident at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Alfred will be missed by his only child, daughter Ruth (Gary) Clark of Henderson, NV; a brother, Rudolph Dittmar; twin granddaughters, Tori Kricken and Erin Swilling and five great grandchildren of Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.
