Man arrested after stealing mail

A local man was arrested after he allegedly stole mail out of a local bar's mailbox.

Ronald L. Daniel, 27, was arrested Wednesday after a patrolling officer saw him taking mail from the mailbox of The Corner Tap, 35 N. Center St.

According to police, once the officer stopped Daniel he denied taking the mail. The officer searched him and found a Mediacom bill and a notice from the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division addressed to the bar. Police say he continued to deny taking the mail out of the mailbox.

Once police verified Daniel had no right or privilege to have the bar's mail he was taken to jail and charged with fifth-degree theft, a simple misdemeanor.

Man threatens family, carried homemade weapon

A local man who allegedly threatened to harm his family and was found with a handmade weapon created from a coat hanger and sharp objects has been arrested.

Tyler J. Pollock, 18, was arrested after police found him walking Third and State Street early Wednesday.

According to police, Pollock's family came to the Marshalltown Police Department at 2:30 a.m. because they were concerned about threats he made towards them.

Officers searched the family's house on the 200 block of Third Street to make sure Pollock wasn't home so they could go back safely.

Officers found Pollock walking uptown then took him into custody. He was taken to jail and charged with first-degree harassment and carrying weapons, both aggravated misdemeanors.

Arrests

On Monday, Jonathon Miguel Hipolito, 3202 S. 12th St. Lot #109, was arrested for operating while intoxicated-first offense.

On Tuesday, Ronald Lee Daniel, 107 E. Lincoln St., was arrested for theft-fifth degree.

On Monday, Matthew Scott Hazelwood, address unknown, was arrested for possession of a Schedule I controlled substance-marijuana.

On Nov. 11, Daniel Leroy Campbell, address unknown, was arrested for criminal mischief-fourth degree.

Accidents

On Monday, a pickup driven by Jennifer Louise Lynch, 601 N. Second Ave., was driving through the parking lot at the Marshall Town Center when the driver started sneezing and struck a light pole in the lot. Lynch was transported to the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center Emergency Room with possible injuries by a family member. Damage to the Lynch pickup was estimated at $2,500 while the light pole received an estimated $200 in damage.

On Monday, a vehicle driven by an unknown driver was northbound on South Sixth Street approaching the intersection with Lincoln Way when it drifted onto the west side of the roadway, attempted to turn west onto Lincoln Way and collided with a vehicle driven by Daniel Arthur Myers, 2709 Arnold Drive, which was stopped at the T-intersection and then left the scene. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Myers vehicle was estimated at $3,000.

On Monday, a vehicle driven by Marco Antonio Andrade Elizarraras, 108 1/2 W. Lincoln St., was traveling south on South Sixth Street when it turned left onto West Olive Street colliding with a car driven by Samantha Jule Reisinger, 809 W. Boone St., which was traveling north on Sixth Street, pulled over to the north side of West Olive, then turned away from the side of the road and collided with a vehicle driven by Julie Anne Finch, 406 Terry Terrace, which was traveling on Olive Street. No injuries were reported. Andrade Elizarraras was cited for no insurance and failure to yield upon left turn while Reisinger was cited for driving under suspension. Damage to the Andrade Elizarraras vehicle was estimated at $600 while the Reisinger car received an estimated $4,000 in damage and the Finch vehicle an estimated $1,000 in damage.

On Friday, a minivan driven by Trina Kay Johnson, 808 W. Main St., was southbound on Third Avenue approaching the intersection with East Linn Street while a car driven by Bradley Alan Johnson, 214 S. 15th Ave., was traveling east on Linn Street. For some unknown reason, the power was out in that area of town causing the intersection lights to not function and the two vehicles collided in the intersection. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Johnson minivan was estimated at $5,000 while the Johnson car received an estimated $4,000 in damage.

Incidents

On Tuesday, Francisco Barajas Jr., 106 S. Fifth St., reported hit and run damage to the passenger side corner of the rear bumper on a 2002 Ford Escort while at 916 E. Main St. Estimated value of damage was $500.

On Tuesday, Michael Ray Jacobs, 1103 E. Anson St., reported suspicious fire damage to a 1998 Ford F150 pickup while parked at his residence. Estimated value of damage was $3,000.

On Tuesday, Daniel Arthur Myers, 2709 Arnold Drive, reported hit and run damage to the front passenger side corner of a 2007 Chevy HHR while at 600 Lincoln Way. Estimated value of damage was $3,000.

On Tuesday, a person associated with Housing Urban Development, of Layton, Utah, reported damage to the south-side front door, the living room closet door and a inner bedroom window at 1613 Fremont St. Estimated value of damage was $400.

Citations

On Monday, Kendra A. Fowler, 216 S. 18th St., was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Nov. 11, Melvin Guy Hoffman Jr., 206 Nicholas Drive Apt. #22, was cited for aiding and abetting criminal mischief-fourth degree.

Sunday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a smoke detector activation-no fire-unintentional at 405 E. Linn St., an alarm system activation-no fire-unintentional at 2500 S. Center St., and four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 206 Nicholas Drive, 1602 Lincoln Way, 301 Sunset Lane, and 313 S. 18th Ave.

Saturday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a gas leak at 1702 S. Fourth St., a passenger vehicle fire at 2805 S. Center St., a motor vehicle accident with injuries on West Church Street and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 202 N. Second Ave., 36 W. Main St., 912 Stegman Blvd., 709 Summit St., and 209 E. Main St.

Friday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 202 N. Second Ave., 106 W. Lincoln St., and 3120 S. Second St.

Nov. 21

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an extrication of victims on South Sixth Street, a passenger vehicle fire at 906 Highland Acres Road, a malicious, mischievous false call at 106 College Drive, and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 3402 S. Center St., 16 E. Main St., and 206 Nicholas Drive.
