A Vietnam veteran will begin duties as the Iowa Veteran Home's chief operating officer Jan. 3.

Mike Jarrell was named COO Monday and has more than 16 years of long-term care experience. He served in the United States Navy from 1968-1972.

"Mike brings great experience in nursing home administration in Iowa," said Jodi Tymeson, commandant of the IVH. "He is familiar with all the processes, all the laws and regulations we need to follow in Iowa, that's why I think he will be such a great new member of the team."

Jarrell said he is excited to learn and start working at the IVH.

"I'm looking forward to being able to help that and make it a good place to live," Jarrell said. "It already is, but we just want to make it better. Being a veteran I've got a good connection with people who reside up there."

Jarrell has been a licensed nursing home administrator in Iowa since 1994.
