DES MOINES - Trevor Berkeley drilled his only 3-point attempt of the game as the Drake men's basketball team scored six points in the final 16 seconds to rally past Western Michigan 71-68 Wednesday night inside the Knapp Center.

Connar Tava hit a jumper with 52 seconds left, putting the visiting Broncos (5-5) ahead for the 10th time in the seesaw game at 66-65. After a timeout, Berkeley hit his 3 with 16 seconds on the clock, Jordan Daniels made two free throws and Seth Van Deest another to provide the final margin.

Tava missed a 3-pointer in the final second.

Drake went into the locker room down 36-33 and trailed by as many as eight points after halftime. The back-and-forth affair featured 22 lead changes and seven ties.

"We've talked so much about defense and rebounding, and tonight we talked about it again very calmly at halftime," said Drake first-year coach Ray Giacoletti. "At some point you have to fully invest in it and tonight we played as good as we have in the second half defensively."

Jacob Enevold scored 11 of his team-high 16 points in the first half for Drake (7-3). Jordan Daniels added 14 points with seven assists, and Chris Caird knocked down a pair of 3-pointers on his way to 10 points.

David Brown led Western Michigan with a game-high 23 points, Tava added 16 and Shayne Whittington 15.

Drake closes out a three-game homestand with Monday's 7:05 p.m. match against Albany.
