Blake Blume, House of Compassion, made an initial appearance on a robbery-second degree charge, a theft-fourth degree charge and a trespass charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. Dec. 30. Bond is set at $10,000 cash only. If bond is met, then Blume is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services.

Darious Dewane Coleman, homeless, made an initial appearance on a robbery-second degree charge, a theft-fourth degree charge, an obstruction of emergency communications charge and a trespass charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. Dec. 30. Bond is set at $10,000 cash only. If bond is met, then Blume is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services.

Brenda Chavarria, address unknown, made an initial appearance through an interpreter on a failure to appear for a pre-trial conference charge. Merrill Swartz will continue as counsel. The pre-trial conference is rescheduled for 9 a.m. Dec. 31. Chavarria was released on her own recognizance.

Marshall Freeman Hooper, 303 W. Linn St. Apt. #2, made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a failure to appear for sentencing charge. On the possession charge Hooper pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. Jan. 14 in Magistrate Court. The sentencing hearing will be rescheduled by the District Associate Court as its docket permits. The public defender's office will continue as counsel. Bond is set at $1,300 cash or surety for both charges.

Tomarra Jo McManus, 1211 W. Boone St., made an initial appearance on two counts of a child endangerment without injury charge, a disorderly conduct charge and a interference with official acts charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle her case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. Jan. 7. McManus was released on her own recognizance. No-contact orders were issued for the protected parties.

Jamie Wheeler, 301 Plaza Heights Road, made an initial appearance on a warrant charging her with violation of a no-contact order. The public defender's office was appointed to handle her case. A contempt hearing is set for 9 a.m. Dec. 30. Wheeler was released on her own recognizance. A new no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Arrests

On Dec. 13, Christopher Charles Watters, of Omaha, Neb., was arrested for ongoing criminal conduct.

On Dec. 12, Jared Alvin Kupka, of Clutier, was arrested for violation of a no-contact order.

Accidents

On Saturday, a pickup driven by John Paul Scigliano, 902 N. Fifth Ave., was northbound on Highway 330 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway causing disabling front end damage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Scigliano pickup was estimated at $4,500.

On Dec. 13, a car driven by Shane Steven Goodall, was westbound on Highway 30 when a rear tire blew resulting in the vehicle going out of control, entering the north ditch and striking a reflective marker before coming to a stop. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Goodall car was estimated at $1,500 while the reflector owned by the Iowa Department of Transportation received an estimated $100 in damage.

On Dec. 11, a vehicle driven by Sue Ann Dankbar, 406 Innes Blvd., was westbound on East Main Street Road when it struck a deer that entered the roadway causing damage to the front passenger side. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Dankbar vehicle was estimated at $1,500.

On Dec. 11, a car driven by Sheryl Ann Simatovich, of Ferguson, was westbound on 290th Street when it struck a deer in the roadway resulting in front end damage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Simatovich car was estimated at $2,000.
