Challenge Branstad to keep voice in gov’t

January 5, 2014
Mike Sawyer, Tama , Times-Republican

The Iowa Juvenile Home is slated to close in mid-January. Regardless of your opinion, for or against, there is a another very important issue. Does the governor of the state of Iowa have the authority to close state facilities at his whim? If the governor is not challenged, the people of Iowa will lose their voice in state government. The real possibility of closing the Iowa Veterans Home, the mental health institutions and any other state operated office or program without public input may become a reality. For the record, a governor's appointed "task force" is not what I or anyone else should consider public input. Call and talk with your elected representatives if you are concerned.
