A local woman was arrested when officers found her two toddlers living among knives, glass pipes, syringes and dog feces.

Shelby L. Peak, 22, was charged with two counts of child endangerment Wednesday afternoon, on the 900 block of Stegman Boulevard, where officers discovered the living conditions. The children, ages 1 and 3, were reportedly within reach of the dangerous objects.

Capt. Mike Hanken, of the Marshalltown Police Department, said officers were originally sent to the home to conduct a search warrant for stolen property. As they were searching the home they also found daggers, glass methamphetamine pipes with residue inside them and a syringe.

Her children were then placed in protective custody and the Department of Human Services was contacted.

Peak is also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and is currently being held in the Marshall County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond.

Hanken said the investigation is ongoing.
