GRUNDY CENTER - The South Hardin boys' basketball team outscored Grundy Center 21-7 in the second quarter to overcome an early deficit, and the Tigers never trailed again in a 65-51 victory Friday in NICL West Division play.
The win was the third straight for South Hardin (5-7, 5-5), which hosts South Tama in a make-up game Monday.
Jack Stumberg scored 14 points to lead Grundy Center (5-11, 4-7) in its second consecutive loss. Jordan Stoner had eight points and seven rebounds before fouling out, and Nick Saak also scored eight points coming off the bench. Austin Burroughs finished with seven points and four steals.
The Spartans, who shot 5-of-21 from 3-point range, are off until a home game Friday against East Marshall.
Bobcat JV girls fall to Mason City
MASON CITY - Kyra Hungerford scored 13 points and Tabby Steffensen added 11, but it wasn't enough for the Marshalltown junior varsity girls' basketball team as the Bobcats fell to Mason City on Friday, 51-40.
Shelby Brennecke also scored nine points for MHS, while Ellyn Boland, Ali Ashby and Aspen Chadderdon each scored two points in the loss.
The Bobcats next play Tuesday at Dowling Catholic.
