GRUNDY CENTER - Grundy Center sophomore Jack Stumberg scored a career-high 21 points thanks to a trio of 3-pointers and the Spartans avenged an earlier loss with a 51-42 triumph over East Marshall in Friday's NICL West Division clash.
Jordan Stoner chipped in with eight points while Brady Hook had seven points and a game-high 13 rebounds as the Spartans (6-11, 5-7) ended a three-game losing streak. Lane Bangasser chipped in with six points and Austin Burroughs five.
Dru Boliver tallied 16 points to pace East Marshall (1-16, 1-11), which was unable to complete the season sweep of the Spartans. Ben Terrones had three 3-pointers and 15 points for the Mustangs. Zack Johnson totaled five points and eight rebounds, but East Marshall could not overcome 19 turnovers in suffering its fourth consecutive defeat.
Meskwaki 70, North Tama 64
TRAER - The Meskwaki Warriors erased an early deficit and held off North Tama 70-64 in Iowa Star Conference play Friday night.
The Warriors (14-2, 11-2) trailed 15-10 after the first period but outscored the host Redhawks 25-8 in the second quarter to pull ahead for good.
A balanced Meskwaki attack saw Allis Tahahwah lead the way with 16 points, Royce Timberwolf followed with 15 and Terrell Grant added 14 in the team's ninth win in a row.
Paul Kaufmann led the Redhawks (6-10, 4-10) with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Taylor Dinsdale added 10 points and seven assists. Ben Panfil contributed 12 points and Logan Zobel finished with eight in North Tama's fourth straight loss.
GMG 67, Waterloo Christian 60
WATERLOO - A third-quarter surge brought the GMG boys back from a double-digit deficit in an eventual 67-60 victory over Waterloo Christian in an Iowa Star Conference contest.
Six players scored seven points or more for the Wolverines (10-6, 7-6), who wrapped up a four-game road swing with the victory. Chad Plaehn led GMG with 18 points and six rebounds, Bridger Claassen had 12 points and Brock Fisher 10. Austin Vaughn and Bryce Newcomb added eight points and six rebounds each, and Luke Petty chipped in seven points.
The Wolverines trailed 32-22 at the half before outscoring their hosts 27-4 in the third period.
Allen Mazzarella scored a career-high 29 points to lead the Regents (5-11, 3-10). Tim Doering added 16 in the team's third straight loss.
Hudson 73, South Hardin 70
HUDSON - Sam Shindelar hit eight of South Hardin's 11 3-pointers and finished with 27 points, but the Tigers couldn't overcome a 17-point halftime deficit.
Eric Mulder also scored 17 points, dished out nine assists and had seven steals as South Hardin rallied but ultimately fell short, losing to Hudson 73-70 in a North Iowa Cedar League cross-division game.
Hudson (10-5) led 27-20 after the first quarter and pushed the lead to 17 at the break after outscoring the Eagles 26-16 in the second frame. South Hardin (5-8) rallied with a big second half but ran out of gas late in the loss.
